Finding a Healthy Balance
April 28, 2009
I guess my desire to lose weight all started when I found out that my blood pressure was higher than normal most of the time and my weight seemed to be going up more and more. In January of 2008, I decided to change my diet because I weighed 215 pounds and my doctor had just increased my blood pressure medication. I began a lower carb style of eating and stopped drinking soda altogether. When I drank coffee, it was without cream or sugar. Many people might say YUCK but I say it works! When I first started I would eat a 3 oz can of tuna, some fruit and drink a small bottle of water. If I got hungry before then, I would eat some nuts. Lunch was a salad, some fruit and another bottle of water. Dinner was usually fish, chicken and occasionally beef with vegetables and of course, water. These days I treat myself to desserts and other things that I like, but always in moderation. I truly believe moderation is the key to anything that you eat or do. As far as exercise, I stay very active at work, and at home I sometimes use my bike or walk, and a few times a week I do crunches and the Perfect Pushup.
The first week I lost 5 pounds and the second week about the same. After that it was a pound or two and sometimes I even gained a pound or two. But if you continue to follow your plan and work towards your goals you will see results. I think what really drives me is the results I see when I get on the scale. When I started my plan my goal was to get my weight down to 180 pounds. Now I feel great, I’m at 175 pounds, my blood pressure medicine has been cut in half and my waist went from almost 40 inches to 36 inches in under 8 months!
At the present time I’m happy with where my weight is and all I’m doing is maintaining. I think that joining the Healthy Lifestyle Program has made a big difference in helping me to stay focused and set obtainable goals. I want to thank my Health Coach Tony for all his support. If I can do it so can you, all you need for motivation is a lot of unwanted pounds and a strong desire to lose it. Good luck to anyone who makes that Healthy Lifestyle decision for a better and healthier life.
